Ciao Shalom! SymphRONica Meets Espresso Manifesto - May 25, 2017
RON DAVIS & DANIELA NARDI IN A JAZZ CELEBRATION OF JEWISH AND ITALIAN HERITAGE MONTHS and JEWISH MUSIC WEEK at BETH TORAH CONGREGATION, TORONTO
Special Guest MC – Erroll Nazareth (CBC)

________________________________________

This May 25, Ron Davis’ SymphRONica and Daniela Nardi’s Espresso Manifesto join forces for an inspired jazz celebration of the Jewish and Italian communities in Ciao Shalom! SymphRONica Meets Espresso Manifesto, at Beth Torah Congregation in Toronto.

The multicultural city’s Jewish and Italian communities have always enjoyed especially close relations. Ciao Shalom! SymphRONica Meets Espresso Manifesto honours them during their back-to-back Heritage Months: Jewish (May) and Italian (June), and during Jewish Music Week (May 21 - 28, 2017). Who better to do this than Canadian music luminaries Daniela Nardi and Ron Davis?

Pianist / composer Ron Davis (“One of the great minds in jazz” - Jazz FM) is one of the most original, enjoyable voices in jazz. Ron is also a graduate of Associated and CHAT, and the proud son of survivors who emigrated to Canada after the Shoah. He has 10 acclaimed albums (an 11th will be released in June). He has toured and performed internationally. He is the founder of SymphRONica, a brilliant fusion of his electric/acoustic jazz quartet, with strings. Ron and SymphRONica are repeat guest performers on BBC, CBC and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In 2015 they were a critic’s choice performer at the Pan Am Games. And on July 1, 2017, Ron and SymphRONica will be playing in London’s Trafalgar Square as part of the Canada’s official Canada 150 celebrations.

Espresso Manifesto is the jazz-world music project of award winning singer/songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist/producer Daniela Nardi, one of Canada's most celebrated homegrown artists. The daughter of Calabrian immigrants who came to Canada in their teens, Daniela has been called “a successful icon for the new generation of Italian-Canadians" by PanoramItalia Magazine. Her catalogue boasts four brilliant recordings, including Espresso Manifesto: The Songs of Paolo Conte and Canto, both on eOne Records. A must-see musical experience, Espresso Manifesto has played to sold-out houses in Toronto, Montreal and New York, with notable performances at the Montreal Jazz Festival, Russia's Tchaikovsky Hall and Toronto's Koerner Hall. Romantic, earthy, sensual, playful, passionate, soulful and electric - Daniela Nardi and Espresso Manifesto have been called all this and more. She is also a winner of the Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for “Female Vocalist of the Year,” and the “Readers Pick Award” for Best Female Vocalist in the prestigious arts-savvy Now Magazine “Best of Toronto” awards.

Ciao Shalom! SymphRONica Meets Espresso Manifesto will offer an exciting and unique collaboration with some of Canada’s best jazz instrumentalists to celebrate Ron’s and Daniela’s respective heritages. The repertoire will range from Davis’ own compositions, to a heart-rending version of Chassal Siddur Pesach, an invigorating take on Dror Yikrah, and some of the American-Jewish Tin Pan Alley songbook. Daniela will display her uncanny emotional resonance in such contemporary Italian masterpieces as Punto by Italian mega-star Jovanotti, A Story Gone Wrong, Nardi’s own English translation of a renowned piece by Italy’s much adored Fabrizio DeAndre, Daniela’s original amorous lament Amami Ancora, and the English version of Beautiful That Way the Academy Award-winner Life Is Beautiful.

And what better venue for Ciao Shalom! SymphRONica Meets Espresso Manifesto than Beth Torah? A leading Jewish congregation in the heart of one of Toronto’s Italian districts (Dufferin Street and Lawrence Avenue). For almost 55 years, Beth Torah has played a central role in the lives of its congregants and the community. Beth Torah prides itself on being a family institution, whose pillars are Inspiration, Interconnection and Inclusion. It has been the site of many great music events in the past.

The Special guest MC for the evening wil be the well-known journalist, broadcaster and music maven, Errol Nazareth.

People from all backgrounds are invited to experience a brilliant evening of music and performance. Tickets are $36. There are also a limited number of VIP tickets for $118, which includes reserved seating, signed artist CDs, an artist meet and greet, and an after-event VIP wine/dessert reception.
